Kennewick
The Native American word for Kennewick is “winter paradise,” and that is what you will find in this southeastern Washington city of more than 74,000 people.
Kennewick is part of the Tri-Cities of Richland, Pasco and West Richland. We have more than 300 days of sunshine a year, which means you can enjoy a variety of outdoor activities. Some examples are hiking or biking along the 23-mile Sacajawea Trail, hiking up Badger Mountain, or any of the three public golf courses in the city (which are open year-round).
Another triad, the confluence of the Snake, Yakima and Columbia rivers has produced an aquatic playground perfect for sailing, boating, waterskiing, swimming fishing, windsurfing and jet-skiing.
Arts & Entertainment
If outdoors isn’t your thing, we have plenty to offer indoors. The Tri-Cities boasts the Mid-Columbia Ballet and symphony, as well as the Mid-Columbia Musical Theatre, the Richland Players, the Academy of Children’s Theater, as well as theatrical musical events offered each year through the six area high schools.
Shopping
We are the retail hub of southeastern Washington and northeastern Oregon with the Columbia Center Mall, Historic Downtown District and the Southridge area.
Sports
Sporting events are numerous, fast and furious with the games of the Fever Indoor Football League, or the Western Hockey League, the Tri-City Americans. The Dust Devils are the Short-season Class A Baseball team. If golf is your dream sport, there are 10 public courses available, open year around.
Parks and Recreation
Family fun has great opportunities with Kennewick’s 27 beautifully maintained parks. Columbia Park, along the Columbia River, is a 360 acre park that offers something for everyone: the Playground of Dreams, the Aquatic Splash Park, the J & S Dreamland Express, an open-air multi-train ride; the Family Fishing Pond; Movies on the River, a no-cost family appropriate night out, and an 18-hole Frisbee Golf course.
The Audubon Nature trail offers great views and sounds of nature including the Duck Pond.
Columbia Park has hosted the Water Follies Columbia Cup unlimited hydroplane races for the past 40 years. It has become a nationally acclaimed event as visitors watch the hydros fly by on the water and the incredible air show overhead between each race. The REACH Museum is at the west end of the park. The natural, scientific and cultural history of the Tri-Cities area has been captured here for the public to enjoy and celebrate.
Business and Education
Tri-Cities is home for the brightest minds in the business. 82% of the population has a high school, college, or graduate education and there are more scientists, engineers, and PhD’s per capita here than anywhere in the United States.
Weather
Kennewick is in a desert region of Washington state and has a mild climate. Average annual precipitation is less than 7 inches. We have little to no snowfall in the winter, with winter temperatures averaging 44 degrees. Golf courses are open year round! Summer temperatures average a comfortable 88 degrees with cool breezes from the encompassing rivers.
